Snooker: Ronnie O’Sullivan Wins Sixth World Championship
Rocket Ronnie gives dominant display over Wilson to claim sixth world championship
Ronnie O’Sullivan joined legends Steve Davis, his boyhood hero, and Ray Reardon, his former coach, as the 44-year-old claimed his sixth World Championship title over the weekend with a dominant 18-8 victory over Kyren Wilson at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre.

The Englishman, who isn’t shy of a polarising opinion, also surpasses Stephen Hendry on the all-time list of ranking event wins with a record 37 titles, it is Hendry’s record of seven world titles that O’Sullivan will now have his sights firmly set on.
On Saturday Wilson battled back to 10-7 after seemingly being out of the contest at an early stage, however O’Sullivan total control once again with a run of seven frames from eight on Sunday afternoon to leave him one short going into the evening session.
The enigmatic and often controversial O’Sullivan wasted little time after the interval as he took the first frame of the session to wrap up a comprehensive 18-8 victory to seal his sixth World Snooker Championship.
After the match, O’Sullivan told the BBC “I never really think about titles. When I was a kid I never really dreamed I would be here. To be here and have had all those victories is a dream that has become a reality.”

The end of what has been an impressive championship for Wilson, who progressed into his maiden world final having received a bye from the first round as opponent Anthony Hamilton and after defeating defending champion Judd Trump in the quarter-finals.
The 28-year-old fell 8-2 behind and will have been buoyed by his rallying comeback, despite his eventual defeat.
On the possibility of equalling and potentially eclipsing Hendry’s tally O’Sullivan said “If I happen to win another one, that would be fantastic. If I don’t, then I have had a wonderful career and snooker has given me plenty of pleasurable moments.”
This title success ranks O’Sullivan amongst the greats of the game, and many would argue he belongs firmly at the top of the list given his seemingly natural ability to do wonderful things on a snooker table.
