A resilient Arsenal comeback in the second half to beat West Ham 

Both teams came into the game desperately needing a win, following a torrid run of form for both London clubs. West Ham came into the game with the worst run of form in the league over the last eight Premier League games whereas North Londoners Arsenal came into the game on their worst run of form since 1977.

It was a game of two halves which saw Arsenal struggle to produce any fluid football in the first half, failing to have a shot on target. West Ham lacked possession however looked more dangerous in their final third, West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna’s header in the 38th minute pulling the Iron’s ahead going into the first half.

The second half showed a renewed Arsenal in the final third seeing promising Arsenal youngster Martinelli equalise for the Gunners in the 60th minute, coming mostly against the run of play. The equaliser conjuring up a comeback from the Arsenal side.

Arsenal’s most expensive signing Nicolas Pépé scored his first goal from open play for Arsenal in the 66th minute with a superb curling strike into the top left corner. Just three minutes later in the 69th minute, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang doubled the lead latching onto a cross from Pépé striking the ball into the bottom right corner.

Arsenal’s comeback saw the North London side progress to 9th in the table, whereas as West Ham’s terrible run of form see’s them stuck in 16th. West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini’s days could now be numbered unless he spurs his side onto something special in their next game away to Southampton.
