After yet another great week of high quality golf which saw a new scoring record, the Tour moves onto TPC River Highlands, Connecticut, for the Travelers Championship.

For the third consecutive week, the top-five players in the Official World Golf Ranking will feature in the event.

Bryson DeChambeau – Rory McIlroy – Phil Mickelson

DeChambeau has been the talking point since his recent body transformation; he has recorded a Top 10 in each of his last five starts, including a T8 at last week’s RBC Heritage.

McIlroy has had a disappointing start since coming back from lockdown, finishing T32 and T41 last week. However, when playing the first two rounds of an event with Mickelson, he has gone onto win (2011 US Open, 2019 The Players Championship)

Mickelson completes the trio and is a two-time winner at this event (2001, 2002). He missed the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge, his only event since returning from lockdown.

Brooks Koepka – Xander Schauffele – Justin Thomas

Koepka produced his best finish of the season last week at the RBC Heritage (7^th) and was the biggest mover in the FedEx Cup, jumping from 204^th to 148^th.

Schauffele has achieved two runner-up positions this season and was in contention at the Charles Schwab Challenge before a disappointing finish.

Thomas is currently second in the FedEx Cup standings after yet another Top 10 finish last week; his best finish at the Travelers Championship was T3 in 2016.

John Rahm – Chez Reavie – Webb Simpson 

Rahm has four Top 10 finishes in seven starts this season. However, since returning from lockdown, he has missed a cut and posted a T33 finish last week.

Defending champion Reavie is the next player in the group, so far he has posted one Top 10 finish this season at the Genesis Invitational.

Last week’s winner Simpson has moved to his best ever World Ranking of fifth. Now top of the FedEx Cup standings, he’ll be looking to carry on his great run of form.

The Course

TPC River Highlands is a private golf club in Connecticut. It is part of the Tournament Players Club network operated by the PGA Tour and since 1984 it has been the venue of the Travelers Championship.

At only 6,841 yards, it is one of the few courses measured below 7,000 yards on the PGA Tour. In 2016, American Jim Furyk posted the first (and only) round of 58 on the PGA Tour.

TPC River Highlands signature hole is the driveable par 4 15th which is a real risk and reward hole, with water to the left and sand to the right. In previous years we’ve seen scores anywhere from a two to a seven.

Legends of the game like Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Nick Price, Greg Norman and Phil Mickelson have all won here, with Billy Casper claiming the most wins with four.

Last year it was American Chez Reavie who claimed a three-shot victory and his second PGA Tour title. The victory was 3,983 days after his first at the Canadian Open. This was the 11^th longest span between first and second Tour wins since 1900.

This year, a number of players will be in contention for the title, so it could be yet another enthralling watch come Sunday.
