A look ahead to the return of the Premier League
Premier League Return: Matches and Preview
The 17th June marks the day that we have all been looking forward to….the return of the Premier League. No doubt we have all enjoyed the action from Bundesliga, giving us a pleasant breaking-in period, with the return to football. Since then we have also seen the restart of La Liga, over the past passed weekend, as well as some Coppa Italia action. However the moment we have all been waiting for is nearly here, the long awaited return of England’s top flight.
On the 17th June we will all be treated to two Premier League clashes. We run through the two Premier League matches set to take place in a couple of days time.
Aston Villa VS Sheffield United
Date: 17 June 2020
Time: 6pm
On Wednesday night there are not just one but two games for us to get our teeth into. First up at 6pm, relegation battling Aston Villa host high flying Sheffield United, in a game that could see Dean Smith’s side move out of the bottom three, for a couple of days at least. The Villains have not won a game in the league since the 2-1 win over Watford way back in January, which says a lot about why they are where they are. I see another frustrating game for the home team, as they take on a Blades side who might just be playing European football next season.
Chris Wilder’s side have been nothing short of sublime this season, from Dean Henderson in goal to Lys Mousset leading the line. They have shown no fear and they have put the cat amongst the pigeons when it comes to some of the big boys. We feel that without the roar of the Holte End, Aston Villa will struggle to stop the Blades getting another 3 points which would take them up to 5th and just two points off 4th place Chelsea. We are going for a 2-0 away win in this one.
Verdict: Aston Villa 0-2 Sheffield United

Manchester City VS Arsenal
Date: 17 June 2020
Time: 8pm
The second game of the evening is Manchester City against Arsenal at the Etihad, which is set to kick off at 8pm. There is no doubt that the Gunners look a much more settled side under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, but as was seen in the recent friendly against Brentford, there is still a lot of work to do in the defence department. We see a potential for plenty of goals as both sides have some world class talent up front. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang currently boasts 17 goals this season for the Gunners whilst Sergio Aguero trails just one goal behind Aubameyang, on 16.
The Gunners are just 8 points off from the top four and will know that a win here would give them a great chance. Even more so when considering their next 3 games come against sides that are all fighting relegation. Man City are currently 4 points ahead of 3rd placed Leicester. As we have seen in the restart of the Bundesliga, the home advantage has ultimately vanished due to empty stadiums and no fan presence, so for that reason we are going to stick our necks out and say Arsenal are going to nick a victory.
Verdict: Manchester City 1 – 2 Arsenal
