It’s finals day tomorrow, and this is the Hundred finals preview

After five weeks of breathless, frantic Cricket, cynicism, and wonderment, finals day in the inaugural Hundred tournament is here. On a landmark day of Cricket, both the women’s and men’s finals take place on the same day, at the same venue. The following is the Hundred finals preview for both games.

 

Women’s Final – Southern Brave vs Oval Invincibles

The women’s final kicks it all off tomorrow at Lords with a 2 o’clock start. It features a brilliant Southern Brave outfit that topped the league phase of the competition. That earnt them direct passage to the showpiece event. The Brave takes on the Oval Invincibles, who triumphed in a dramatic semi-final on Friday afternoon.

 

Key Players to Watch

The inspirational Dane van Niekerk leads the Invincibles. The South African skipper is an astute tactician with a tremendous feel for the game. Supporting van Niekerk is superstar Tash Farrant. The left-arm medium-pacer is now the leading wicket-taker in the competition with 23.

The Southern Brave roster boasts a wealth of talent and experience. England World Cup winners Danni Wyatt and Anya Shrubsole anchor the side with their vast knowledge of white-ball Cricket. Windies women’s skipper Stefanie Taylor provides a dash of Caribbean flair and skill, while youngsters such as Lauren Bell and Tara Norris have shone.

Men’s Final – Southern Brave vs Birmingham Phoenix

The table-topping Birmingham Phoenix starred during the league stage of The Hundred. The Phoenix surged into the final with a 6-2 record that provided them with 12 points.

Opponents Southern Brave started the tournament in poor form. Losing two of their first three games applied plenty of pressure onto the Southampton-based squad. A turn-around helped the Brave snatch second place. That set up an eliminator match against the Trent Rockets on Friday. The Brave routed Trent as they cantered to a dominant victory after bowling out the Rockets for 96.

 

Key Players to Watch

The big boost for Birmingham is that Moeen Ali is allowed to play after getting called to the test side. Ali’s been in scintillating form with bat and ball. Ali’s joined by big-hitting Liam Livingstone. The Englishman smashed 92 runs off 40 balls in Birmingham’s last league game. The England player also chipped in with three wickets. Ali and Livingstone hold the key for the Phoenix, especially as New Zealander Finn Allen has left to join the Black Caps for their tour of Bangladesh.

For the Southern Brave, the fast bowling stocks have underpinned their success. England stalwart Chris Jordan’s starred alongside tearaway quick Tymal Mills and the awkward left-arm angle of George Garton. Additionally, the Brave’s batting is in good health. Former England batter James Vince is captaining the side in his laissez-faire attitude, and it is working.

 

Where Is the Final

Like the women’s final, the men’s match takes place at the home of Cricket, Lords. It is a historic occasion for the ECB. Sadly, there is a rain forecast for finals day, with the inclement weather possibly intensifying in the evening. It’d be a crying shame if the weather intervened.

Again, like the women’s final, this match is getting televised on Sky Sports, the BBC and YouTube, and the on-demand platforms. It promises to be a spectacular occasion.
