Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham: 2 a-piece in Chelsea-Tottenham pre-season thriller
Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham: 2 a-piece in Chelsea-Tottenham pre-season thriller!
Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to draw with Chelsea in a exciting pre-season friendly.
During the first quarter of the match, the Blues, playing in front of a loud Stamford Bridge crowd, Chelsea dominated. Under the pressure, Moura was dis-possessed by Kante, whose tackle fell neatly to Hakim Ziyech who drove forward encouragingly towards the edge of the box. The two Lilywhite defenders, Dier and Tanganga, backed off and Ziyech shot a low, well-placed past Gollini to open the scoring. The Chelsea number 22 left Gollini, also number 22, with no chance.

Chelsea scored again, through Timo Werner. Werner found a through-ball through the lines and rounded Tottenham’s goalie nicely yet it was deemed off by the right linesman. The decision was questionable yet without the use of VAR in the match, the decision stood.
Chelsea dominated the rest of the half yet didn’t capitalize.
At the very start of the second half, Spurs, only in Nuno Espirito Santo’s fourth game, came out strongly. They came close to scoring, most notably through Heung-Min Son, but down to some great Chelsea defending, notably from youngster Chalobah the score stayed the same. Soon after, Marco Alonso beat substitute Harry Winks to cross it in to the in-space Ziyech, who controlled the ball and shot towards the bottom-right corner. Add a slight nick of Eric Dier and the score became 2-0, slightly against the run of play.

In the 56th minute Tottenham attacked in numbers. After Dele Alli was tackled it fell nicely to Lucas Moura, who pulled the trigger and scored, yet only after a huge deflection off Kurt Zouma. The goal included some nice passing but ultimately it was down to the deflection that the goal was scored. This spurred Spurs on to face Chelsea more and more and give them some things to think about.

With just 20 minutes remaining, Lucas Moura intercepted a loose ball well before playing it to Son. Son then dribbled for a short while before laying it into Steven Bergwijn who burst past the defender before creating the angle to slot it well through Mendy’s legs. It was his first goal in pre-season and will certainly be a morale booster for him, especially after missing out on a EURO 2020 place for the Dutch.
Tammy Abraham’s tight angled shot was well saved by Gollini as the game threatened to find a winner. Late on Ben Davies found space on the left hand side of the 6-yard box yet hit it unconvincingly and it was cleared off the line by Ampadu.
Despite threatening to reach a climax, at the final whistle the honours were shared in a great pre-season encounter, as it finished Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham. This meant that both sides got 3 points in the mind series. This is because you get a point for a draw plus a point for each goal you score. This leaves Chelsea on 8 points after they won their first game 2-1 versus Arsenal, Tottenham on 3 points and Arsenal on one point as we look towards the final game of the Series; Tottenham Hotspur Versus Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
