Premier League fixtures 2021/22 announced
The 2021-2022 Premier League season will kick off on 14 August, with the fixture list being announced this morning. Norwich and Watford who have bounced straight back up from the Championship will face Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively. While Premier League debutants Brentford will host Arsenal in their first top flight game since 1947.
Champions Manchester City will begin their title defense at Tottenham Hotspur who are still without a manager, as they will be looking to improve upon an underwhelming 2020/21 season.
The opening weekend games
Here’s the full list of the first round of fixtures to kick off the 2021/22 Premier League campaign.
Brentford vs Arsenal
Burnley vs Brighton
Chelsea vs Crystal Palace
Everton vs Southampton
Leicester City vs Wolverhampton
Manchester United vs Leeds United
Newcastle United vs West Ham United
Norwich City vs Liverpool
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City
Watford vs Aston Villa
As for the big six and derby games, fans will have to wait a little over a month, where the north London derby will take place, as Spurs face Arsenal on September 25th. The two Manchester clubs will not meet each other until November 11th at Old Trafford, while Liverpool and Everton won’t meet until a midweek fixture under the lights on November 30th. When it comes to Boxing Day, the eye-catching fixtures include Liverpool hosting Leeds and Manchester City against FA Cup winners Leicester City.
Apart from the European governing body UEFA, every regional confederation has been cleared to arrange fixtures between January 24th and February 1st. Due to this, The Premier League has opted to leave a 17 day window due to the number of International matches that have been scheduled for the end of the month as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. The Opening Weekend Statistics
- Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 14 Premier League fixtures against their opening day opponents Norwich, while the canaries are winless in their first premier league match of the season in their last 8 attempts.
- Leeds have failed to win at Old Trafford in their last 16 visits. A run dating back to 1981.
- Manchester City boast the joint-longest run of winning their opening league game of the season which steams back the past 10 campaigns. An opening day win this season would be a record breaking 11.
- Brentford’s opening day match against Arsenal will be their first top-flight game for 74 years. The only team with a longer gap between top-flight matches is Bradford City (77 years).
