Euro 2020: France vs Germany Preview

What will be regarded as the game of the tournament so far in the European Championships, the group F clash  will kick off at 8pm on ITV this evening, with France facing off against Germany in Munich.

Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann both have been given the green light to play ahead of the game after coming off in their final friendly prior to the tournament injured.

Germany and Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka will miss the game as he continues his recovery from a leg injury.

Among the 24 nations at Euro 2021, France boss Didier Deschamps and Joachim Low are the 2 longest serving managers for their national sides. With the Frenchman being in charge since July 2012, and the German since July 2006.

France predicted XI: Lloris; Pavard, Varane, Kimpembe, Hernandez; Pogba, Kante, Tolisso; Griezmann, Benzema, Mbappe

Germany predicted XI: Neuer; Ginter, Hummels, Rudiger; Kimmich, Gündoğan, Kroos, Can; Havertz, Werner, Gnabry

Head-to-head

  • This will be the sixth time France and Germany have met at a major tournament. But the first ever time that has happened in the group stages.
  • So far the head-to-head record between the two teams is perfectly balanced with 2 wins each and a draw.

France

  • France are taking part in their 10th European Championship. Also their 8th in a row.
  • Only Germany and Spain have have won more European Championships (3 each) then France (2, 1984 & 2ooo).
  • Since 2014 (including the World Cup), France have won 14 of their last 19 games at a major tournament.

Germany

  • Germany are taking part in their 13th European Championship, more than any other team. The game against France will be their 50th in the tournament, the first team to reach the milestone.
  • Manager Joachim Low has led Germany to the semi-finals in five of his six previous tournaments (eliminated in the group stages at the 2018 World Cup).

In the 2 sides most recent meeting, France came out 2-1 winners (October 16th 2018.)
