NBA: Denver withstands Lillard’s 55 point performance
In a desperate situation to win, the Portland Trail Blazers lost in a defensive nightmare to the Denver Nuggets. The game was a double-overtime instant classic as Damian Lillard was draining three after three in the closing minutes. The Nuggets overcame his 55-points performance and took the game in the second overtime, 147-140.

The game was a slow start for the Blazers as before halftime they were down 59-39 and things were not looking good for them. However, a 23-6 run got them back in the game and into a competitive second half.
Nikola Jokic and Damian Lillard played their hearts out and were battling, whilst putting some crazy stat lines in. The Joker had a near triple-double with 38 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Even though he had a weak game 4 he bounced back to help the Nuggets secure the win. On the other end of the floor.
Damian Lillard had a historic night. He scored 55 points and had 10 assists. The craziest part of Dame’s 55-point bomb was that he did it while shooting 71% from the field. His teammate, CJ McCollum, had a disappointing playoff night with poor shot selection. He had a shooting slump and finished the game with roughly 31% field goal efficiency on 22 attempted shots.

In game 4, it was evident that the Nuggets were missing their scoring go-to players Jamal Murray and Will Barton, who were out due to injuries. However, for game 5 Nikola Jokic had help from Austin Rivers, Monte Morris and Aaron Gordon. The four of them combined had a total of 95 points. Therefore it is safe to say that the Nuggets’ win was achieved through team effort.
Another contributing factor for the win was Denver’s paint presence. They outrebounded the Blazers and forced them to take shots out of the paint. That was not a problem for Lillard as he made 12 three pointers, but the supporting cast was not there for him.
The Blazers take game 6 at home, but the question remains if Damian Lillard will get help from his teammates. After an exhausting game, it’s all or nothing for the Blazers back at home in game 6.
