Max Verstappen Wins at Monaco Grand Prix
Max Verstappen took the spoils at the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix. His victory secured him the needed points to pass Hamilton in the overall standings. He is now first in the Driver’s Champions with Hamilton behind. This success was also achieved due to Hamilton finishing 7th on the grid. The Hamilton-Verstappen battle deepens as they both now share a tighter gap at the top of the standings.
Behind Verstappen were Carlos Sainz in 2nd place and Lando Norris in 3rd.
Red Bull shared a great weekend as Verstappen’s teammate, Sergio Perez finished 4th. Aston Martin also had a great weekend as they both saw Vettel and Stroll finish in the top 10.

LeClerc out before the race
The leader in Saturday’s qualifications, Charles Leclerc did not start the race. Before beginning, his Ferrari teammates detected a maintenance problem with the driveshaft as a result of his crash during qualifications on Saturday. Therefore, LeClerc was out for Monaco and the lead was taken by Max Verstappen.
Charles Leclerc: "In the garage it was very difficult to feel ok, but I guess now I'm getting used to this feeling here unfortunately.
"I've never finished a race here – this year, I don't start it. It's a difficult one to take and I also feel for the team."#MonacoGP ?? #F1 pic.twitter.com/2GNdbB70iW

Disappointment for Mercedes
However, Mercedes’s pitting strategy was met with disappointment as Valtteri Bottas’ front right tire could not come off. The tire gun jammed and this resulted in Bottas being out. His teammate, Hamilton was frustrated as Pierre Gasly was holding him at bay for most of the race.
Even though Hamilton pitted in the last quarter of the race, his soft tires did not get him past Gasly.
