Europa League Preview: AS Roma v Manchester United

Manchester United head to Rome for their Europa League semi-final second leg, with a comfortable 6-2 lead.

The four-goal advantage for United has put them one foot, and a couple of toes, into the final. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be wary to fight off any potential comeback put up by the Italians, who have 2 away goals.

AS Roma are familiar with dramatic comebacks in Europe. It has been a couple of years since their comeback against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. Paulo Fonseca will take hope from this and Paulo will want to finish his Roma spell off in style.

Roma will take more hope from their promising first-half display in the first leg. The Italian outfit scored 2 in the first half and could have, and probably should have, scored more. Edin Dzeko will be crucial. He has an amazing record against Manchester United in his career.

Europa League success isn’t as crucial for United as it is Arsenal. United sit 2nd in the league and will qualify for the Champions League. This doesn’t mean they will take their foot off the gas. Solskjaer and co will be keen to win this trophy to cap off a good season.

Team News

Dan James hasn’t travelled with the squad to Rome and joins Anthony Martial on the sideline.

Amad Diallo has been included in the 24-man squad so may feature from the start with the big lead. This will be dependant on whether Solskjaer decides to rest players with so many games upcoming and such a big lead.

Solskjaer also doesn’t have any players at risk of suspension if they pick up a yellow so has no concern on that front.

Roma had a nightmare first half with injuries in the first leg. Pau Lopez, Jordan Veretout and Leonardo Spinazzola all suffered a setback. Lopez is out for the season and the other two are doubtful for tonight.
