Waiting For the ‘Hammers’ to Fall
Waiting For the ‘Hammers’ to Fall
Credit where credit is due.
At seasons-dawn, he vied for favouritism within the dreaded first-Premiership-managerial-casualty-category.
His charges (the perennial underachieving West Ham United); appeared tailor-made for another campaign mired at the deep-end of the division.
Ever since those halcyon days at Goodison Park (2002-2013), his stock has diminished appreciably.
However; David Moyes; the former Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sunderland Manager, has remained stoic, and appears to have rediscovered his mojo.
On the eve of his 58th Birthday; Glasgow-born Moyes has overseen a noteworthy League campaign, which could yet see the ‘Hammers’ secure their highest League finish in the Premiership-era.
With six fixtures remaining; the Londoners sit within touching-distance of a Champions League Qualification berth.
This weekends much-anticipated clash with rivals Chelsea; provides West Ham with a tangible opportunity to showcase their credentials, against a side with a recognisable European pedigree.
Indeed; the Blues’ congested run-in, includes a high-profile last-four encounter with Real Madrid, prior to an FA Cup Final in Mid-May.
?"It wasn't our ambition at the start, but it is our ambition now."

An avid student of the game; David Moyes graduated into football management on the back of a successful playing career (plied mainly within the second-tier of English and Scottish football). Albeit, the proud Scotsman is quick to point-out the Championship winners medal he achieved at Celtic, in the early 1980’s.
His transition into management began at one of English Football’s founding fathers, Preston North End, in January 1998, before Everton (and others), came calling.
With the benefit of hindsight; his undoing at Old Trafford was entirely predictable, given the incredible achievements of predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson. Subsequent appointments (in particular Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho), provide support in this context.
Time is a precious commodity in football management, and second-time-around; David Moyes may yet be garlanded with ‘pretty bubbles’ by West Ham hordes, and soccer pundits alike.
Who would credit it.
7 – Seven years ago today, David Moyes was sacked at Manchester United. He averaged 1.68 points per game, the lowest of any Man Utd boss in the Premier League. Recommendation.
Can he lead West Ham to the Champions League? We look at his long road to redemption for @OptaAnalyst.
