Jamel Herring V Carl Frampton- Fight Report
Jamel Herring has retained his WBO Super-Featherweight title following a sixth-round stoppage win over Carl Frampton who announced his retirement from boxing.
Frampton after the fight who was visibly emotional, made clear his intentions to retire from boxing to spend time with his family,
“I said before that I would retire if I lost this fight, and that’s exactly what I’m gonna do.”

Herring gave Frampton a vicious uppercut which rocked the Northern Irishman, before a flurry of punches which gave the referee no other choice but to stop the fight in round six.
Despite suffering a cut around the eye in the fourth round, Herring was successful to the point where Frampton had suffered his first knockdown of the fight in the fifth round. Frampton, despite putting on a brave effort, fell short of the victory this time around.
In what was a difficult task for Frampton, it wasn’t the greatest of starts for Carl as he had a slow start to the fight. Herring made apparent of his height and reach in the early rounds, which became dominant throughout establishing a successful jab which caused notable trouble for the Irishman.
This fight had been on the cards for a while and whilst Jamel took to taking on his biggest test in so far, not only as champion but also in his career, Frampton was looking to become the first three weight World Champion out of Northern Ireland in which he said that he will ‘retire’ if he lost.
With Oscar Valdez recently looking at the prospect on meeting the winner of this match and putting the Super-Featherweight division on notice by getting a superb victory against Miguel Berchelt in February, Herring and Frampton came into the fight looking to stake their claim to see who is among the best in the division, with both fighters coming off victories in their previous bouts.
For Jamel Herring, this has been a career-defining victory and the biggest of his career so far. He showed everyone that he has what it takes to fight the best fighters and showed that he truly belongs on the big stage. Jamel now has a chance to fight the bigger names in the division possibly Oscar Valdez or even Shakur Stevenson.
? An illustrious career that brought many incredible moments, including becoming a two-weight world champion.@RealCFrampton should be proud of what he has achieved. Despite losing on his very last fight, Frampton has been one of the big names in British boxing over the past decade and has undoubtedly cemented his legacy as one of the greatest fighters from Northern Ireland.
Despite coming into the bout with vast experience in world title fights, this wasn’t meant to be his night and as a result becomes his last fight as a professional. He will leave behind a career where he achieved so much and fought the great names of his era, leaving memories that will live long for boxing fans across the country.
