Israel Adesanya: Fighters At A Glance
On today’s installment of Fighter’s At A Glance we are looking at the UFC career of UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya. Adesanya is now the UFC Middleweight champion today we are going to look at his UFC career.
The Start
Israel debuted in the UFC with a very strong kickboxing background in 2018. The first man to fight Israel in the UFC was Rob Wilkinson. This was a dream debut for “The Last Stylebender” as he stormed his way to a second round stoppage victory. Then came a tough test for Adesanya against Marvin Vettori and although this was a tough fight Israel still got the split decision win. A fight with Brad Tavares on The Ultimate Fighter: Undefeated Finale card was next. Israel managed to keep his undefeated status after fighting to a unanimous decision win.
Bad Blood
Israel’s first “bad blood” in the UFC came against Derek Brunson. Both Israel and Derek shared some heated words in the press conference leading up to the fight. The bad blood was the perfect additive to make this a god fight. It didn’t let us down on Israel’s part as he earned his self a tko victory in the first round.
Israel then had a dream fight against a true icon of MMA against Anderson Silva. This was going to be a number one contender fight for Adesanya. It ended up being the main event of UFC 234 after Rob WHittaker vs Kelvin Gastelum was scrapped. Adesanya pulled out a dominant unanimous decision win.
Title Winner
Then came the first title shot of Adesanya’s reign and it was an interim title fight against Kelvin Gastelum. This proved to be one of the fights of the year and a complete war with both men giving it their all. At the end it was Adesanya that walked away with the title and the victory.
Adesanya then had the chance to unify the title with Champion Robert Whittaker. A lot of people were favouring Adesanya this fight. They was correct to do so as Adesanya fully dominated the champ and knocked him out in the second round. Israel’s first defence came against Yoel Romero. This fight had high expectations but it did not live up to the standards and wasn’t a very exciting fight. But Israel did get the victory.
Then came a very high anticipated fight against Paulo Costa. There was bad blood between the pair with both being undefeated at the time and fans wondering who would come out on top. The fight was a dominant fight with Adesanya using his skills amazingly and ended up knocking Costa out in the second round.
