NFL – Week Seven: Best Spread Bets

Last week we had New England -9.5 at home to the Denver Bronco’s which saw Drew Lock beat out veteran head coach Bill Belichick in the shock win of the week.  Secondly, we had the Vikings -2.5 at home to the falcons.

The Vikings handed the Falcons their first win of the season which doubles our bad luck for last week. To round off last week’s abysmal run, I also had the Panthers -1.5 at home to Bears. Credit to the Bears in this one as they have shown everyone in the NFL that they are a 5-1 team.

 

Cleveland Browns -3 @ Cincinnati Bengals – 25/10/2020

In Week six of the NFL games we saw the Browns get pushed around and out played by their undefeated AFC North rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers. They also lost their opening game of the season by a blow out against the Ravens who are the reigning AFC North champions. The Browns have scored 30+ points in every game except against their AFC North counterparts.

In their previous game, the Bengals jumped to a 21-0 lead over the Colts but they were unable to stop the comeback as rookie Quarterback Joe Burrow fell to 1-4-1 on the season.

Although, the Bengals showed real potential against the Colts, the Browns offence is much quicker and more dynamic than the Colts and they will run wild over the Bengals. The Browns beat the Colts in Week five, 32-23.

In terms of the matchups in this game, the Bengals have the league’s 28th best rushing defence and the Browns are one of the best rushing teams. Kevin Stefanski’s men have the most rushing yards and rushing attempts in the league.

Burrow, who is 23rd on CBS Sports’ QB power rankings, three ahead of Baker, will be running for his life as Myles Garrett and his 7.0 sacks are all heading his way with the Bengals O-Line not stopping anyone. The Browns will win by more than a touchdown never mind a field goal.

 

Seattle Seahawks -3 @ Arizona Cardinals – 25/10/2020

The Seahawks are 5-0 in the league and their new approach of “Let Russ Cook” is working just fine for them. Russell Wilson is first in passer rating, touchdowns scored with 19 and at least 2 in every game this season. The Seahawks offense is first in points per game with 33.8.

The Cardinals won big in their last game against the cowboys 38-10 but they had a rare 4 turnovers to their advantage. Kyler Murray did throw two touchdowns, but he only managed 9 completed passes for 24 attempted. Kenyan Drake did rush for 164 yards and managed two touchdown’s himself, to round a good showing for the Arizona offense.

The way to beat this Seahawks team is to either keep Russ off the pitch or beat him in a shoot-out. Something easier said than done as no one has managed that task so far.

The Cardinals are third in rushing yards, attempts and first in rushing touchdowns but the Seahawks defence does keep rushing to under 4 yards a carry, first in the NFL, and they have managed the fourth least rushing yards allowed.

Kyler Murray will not have enough to go throw for throw with the league’s leading quarterback and the Seahawks defence will put pressure on Murray to perform as his rush attack dwindles. I fully expect Russ to keep on cooking to 6-0 with a win over his NFC West Bird Rival.

 

Atlanta Falcons -2.5 at home to Detroit Lions – 25/10/2020

The Falcons achieved their first win in the post-Dan Quinn era last week with a 40-23 win over the Vikings. Matt Ryan impressed with a quarterback rating of 136.6 and four touchdowns. The Lions beat the Jaguars 34-16 on the road to improve their record to 2-3.

The Detroit Lions pass rush has struggled this season as they are bottom five, in the league, in sacks and quarterback pressures.  On contrast, the Falcons defence has also been below par as they have allowed 71% of passes thrown to be completed with 7.5% of those throws ending in touchdowns. These are bottom three across the league.

This will setup both quarterbacks to have a blockbuster game, but the Falcons just have more weapons on offence with star receivers Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley compared to Lions’ Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay. The pair of Lions receivers have three touchdowns between them whereas Ridley has five on his own, third best in the NFL.

I like the Falcons to continue their resurgence without Dan Quinn, against a team that has its own head coach Matt Patricia on the NFL hot seat. Matt Ryan and co will build upon their dominant air attack against the Vikings with a win at home. The Lions will score points, but the Falcons offense will just have too much and will run away with the game.
