Placheta Rescues a Point for Norwich City

It was an eventful return to Carrow Road for the 1,000 fortuitous Norwich City fans who were successful in the ticket ballot.

Preston started the brightest and opened the scoring after Oliver Skipp was deemed to foul Alan Browne, providing Scott Sinclair with the opportunity to slot home.

The decision to award the penalty was questionable, as was Declan Rudd’s goalkeeping when Teemu Pukki’s header found his way past the Norfolk-born stopper.

But Preston were not done there, and when Ryan Ledson threaded through Scott Sinclair, it appeared that Ben Godfrey’s last-ditch defending had kept the score even, until Darnell Fisher latched on to the clearance to put Preston back in the lead.

Norwich persisted and created a host of chances, the best of them falling to Przemyslaw Placheta after Adam Idah’s left-footed strike was palmed away into the Pole’s path, only for him to fire over the bar.

Placheta got the opportunity to redeem himself. After Max Aarons lofted cross was initially headed away by Patrick Bauer, it was his second swipe which found the back of the net and pulled Norwich level with Preston.

Norwich City hoping for more

Norwich came close to taking all 3 points. Adam Idah’s cross-field through-ball found Placheta, who fizzed in a teasing cross for City’s other scorer, Pukki, only for Rudd to deny him with a fine stop.

A point a piece was probably a fair result. From a Preston point of view, they can be pleased with how they performed against a Norwich side widely tipped to go straight back up.

For Daniel Farke, it is all about slowly soothing the Premier League hangover, as well as easing in the new boys.

Whilst Placheta’s second appearance in a City shirt could have been painted all so differently had his sitter been his last memorable moment of the match, he was integral in pulling Norwich back into this one.

With Kieran Dowell coming off injured and Emi Buendia picking up a knock mid-week, the newly called up Poland under-21 international could be handed his first start for Norwich against Bournemouth on Sunday in what will undoubtedly be the Canaries toughest opponent yet.
