Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant Preview

Boxing fans. It’s that time of year again. Canelo Alvarez is back in the ring as he defends his WBA and Ring Magazine Middleweight titles against American Caleb Plant on Saturday night from Las Vegas. Canelo vs Plant has been confirmed as a 12-round contest, which will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena with Canelo looking to continue his dominance within the ring.

Alvarez comes into the fight on a 7 fight winning streak, with his last non-victory coming over four year ago, drawing with Gennady Golovkin on 16th September 2017. Spectators will have to cast their minds back to 14th September 2014, the last and only time Canelo faced defeat. The hands of arguably the best ever to step in the ring, Floyd Mayweather, outclassing Alvarez over 12 rounds.

Fast Forward back to October 2021, Canelo faces American Caleb Plant, defending his WBA, WBC, WBO and ‘The Ring’ Super Middleweight titles. Canelo has thus far, held a professional boxing record of 52-1-2 with 34 wins coming by way of knockout.

Caleb ‘Sweethands’ Plant comes into the fight undefeated with a record of 21-0-0 (12 KOs). Plant will also be putting his IBF crown on the line, with both fighters looking to become the first ever undisputed world champion at 168 pounds.

Canelo will be looking to go one step further than middleweight Welsh boxing legend Joe Calzaghe, who managed to hold three belts inside the division. The Mexican will become the first undisputed super-middleweight champion, should he defeat the American.

Saturday, 6th November

Time (UK): Canelo’s UK start time is yet to be announced. However if it remains similar to Canelo’s last performance against Rocky Fielding, Canelo will walk out at around 4am GMT for Canelo vs Plant.

Venue: The MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

 

Stream

Boxing fans within the UK will be able to stream the pay-per-view event on BT Sport Box Office for £19.95.

 

Odds

Alvarez comes into the fights as a major favourite, with bookmakers offering odds of 1/10. Plant on the other-hand is seen as a major underdog, coming into the fight with odds of 7/1.
