Everton v Leicester Preview

Leicester look to hold onto third place

Everton welcome 3rd place Leicester to Goodison Park this evening in a game in which both sides could do with the three points. The Toffees won at struggling Norwich and will hope their impressive home form will continue. Leicester, meanwhile, are yet to taste victory since the restart. Here is our Everton v Leicester preview.

Everton’s impressive home run

Everton are unbeaten in their last eight games at home. They have four wins and four draws in a run that stretches back to November, when they were beaten by Norwich. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been in great form and, although he is yet to find the net since the return, he is Everton’s top scorer with 13 goals. I am a big fan of Calvert-Lewin and if he can grab a goal or two before the end of the season, there is a big chance that he could get an England call up.

Leicester in need of a boost

Leicester travel to Merseyside having won just two of their last ten games. This will worry manager Brendan Rodgers as, before the break, they looked certain for a top 3 finish. Results since the restart, however, have seen the Foxes slip eight points behind Manchester City and just a point ahead of chasing Chelsea. I am not sure what has gone wrong for the foxes but they don’t look their confidence selves. If there is one thing that could get their season back up and running, it is three valuable points. Crucially for Leicester, Jamie Vardy is the league’s top scorer with 19 goals and they will hope he has his shooting boots on.

Leicester City had been Liverpool’s closest competitors at one point.

The prediction: Everton v Leicester

This is a really hard one to call but I am going to say Everton to win, simply because their home form has been superb. On the other hand, Leicester will cause the home side plenty of problems if they can get James Maddison ticking again. Where the game could get interesting is how the teams’ ambitions present themselves. Leicester are desperate to keep ahead of Chelsea, who are closing fast. Whereas Everton are unlikely to get European football and even more unlikely to be relegated.

Unfortunately for Leicester fans, my prediction for tonight’s game is: Everton 2:1 Leicester
